Album Cover Drafts

I have drawn drafts for my album cover, ideas which have been influenced by my primary and secondary research.

THE FRONT COVER:

For the front cover, I have decided to make it look like a photostrip, to match with my initial ideas for my music video. The idea is that my three models will be pulling silly faces, then in the final photos they will be smiling, as if they are putting on their 'happy face', which relates to the album title.

Unlike most album covers, I am planning on making the album title larger than the band's name. I am doing this because I believe the title of this album is the main focus of this album, which is why I am putting more emphasis upon it.

The colour scheme I am planning on using is white, yellow, brown and black. I am using yellow and white because these are the colours my target audience chose in my questionnaire feedback. I am using the colour brown for the album title because it will be bold and stand out against the white and yellow, and because it has natural connotations, which relates to my music video, and the tracks I am intending to use. I'm using the colour black for the band's name because it will stand out against the white and yellow. The pictures behind the text will have a white tint, to make the text more visible.

THE BACK COVER:

The background of the back cover will be identical to the front cover, with the same photos used in the same order, however all the photos will have a blur effect, to bring focus onto the text. I have designed it in this way because in my secondary research, I found that on other album back covers, the focus is put upon the text rather than the artist(s).

The list of tracks will be in the same font used for 'Destiny's Child' on the front cover. The list of tracks will also be in black, to stand out, and on the pictures behind I will apply a white tint, for the text to stand out even further. Following the conventions of an album cover, the tracks will be listed in the centre, and I am going to put the barcode on the bottom right hand corner, with the legal information and company logos next to it along the rest of the bottom. The text at the bottom of the page will be black with a white tint behind to stand out.

THE FIRST INSIDE COVER:
On the first inside cover, which would be on the left hand side if opened as a hard copy, I have decided to display a short quote in large text. I will apply a slight twist on the colour scheme in comparison to the front and back covers, by applying a dark, brown tint on the background, and using white text.

The pictures used for the background on the inside will be extremely to those used on the front and back covers, however they will be smaller and more will be added, creating more 'photostrips'.

The large quote will be in a font which resembles handwriting, to make it seem more personal, as if the person has actually handwritten the quote.

THE SECOND INSIDE COVER:
For the second inside cover, the background will be identical to the first inside cover. On top will be the lyrics to the song 'Happy Face' in the same font used for the title 'Happy Face' on the album's front cover, but in white.

THE SPINE:

For the album's spine, I plan on the background being white in the centre, fading to brown as it reaches the edges. There will be text in the centre saying 'Destiny's Child' and 'Happy Face', in the same colour and font that both these words used on the front cover. On one end of the spine, I will place the company logos, and on the other side I will place the barcode number.
